All-Inclusive Maryland Wedding Venues: What to Ask Your DJ

Booked an all-inclusive Maryland venue? Here are 6 questions to ask about DJs, timelines, sound limits, and upgrades before you sign. Includes a tour checklist.

All-Inclusive Maryland Wedding Venues: What to Ask Your DJ

You toured the venue, loved the view, and then saw the magic words: all-inclusive. Catering, bar, rentals, staff, coordination, all in one price. As a Maryland wedding DJ with 20+ years behind the booth, I can tell you the label is helpful, but it is not a promise. What is included changes from one property to the next, and entertainment is the item couples most often assume is covered when it is not.

Here is how I help couples read an all-inclusive package across Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, Baltimore, and the Chesapeake Bay, so there are no surprises at the final walkthrough.

What "All-Inclusive" Usually Means in Maryland

Most Maryland packages bundle some mix of the following. Notice how many of them touch the music, the timeline, or the sound.

  • Venue and tables. Ceremony and reception space, standard tables, chairs, and basic linens.
  • Food and bar. A set menu, a bar package, cake cutting, and the servers who run it.
  • Staff and coordination. A venue coordinator, setup crew, and breakdown crew.
  • Extras that vary. Lighting, a sound system, a microphone for toasts, and sometimes a house DJ or playlist option.

That last bullet is where I want you to slow down. A house sound system and a professional DJ are not the same thing. One plays audio. The other reads the room, keeps the schedule moving, and works as your MC.

Question 1: Is Entertainment Actually Included?

Ask directly: Does your package include a DJ, and if so, who is it? Some venues partner with a preferred entertainment company. Others include only a Bluetooth playlist and a microphone. If a DJ is included, ask how many hours, whether the MC work is covered, and whether you can bring your own DJ instead for a credit or at all.

If you are comparing options, my wedding DJ packages lay out exactly what you get, hour by hour, so you can set them next to a venue bundle and see the real difference.

Question 2: Who Controls the Timeline?

At an all-inclusive venue, the coordinator often owns the schedule. That is great for food service and tough for the dance floor if nobody connects the dots. Ask whether your DJ can talk with the coordinator before the wedding, and whether the kitchen timing is flexible when toasts run long.

I always build a timeline with the couple, then share it with the venue, photographer, and planner. If you want a head start, grab the free Wedding Entertainment Planning Guide at our planning guide download and bring it to your next venue meeting.

Question 3: Are Outside Vendors Welcome?

Some all-inclusive venues have a vendor list. Others allow outside vendors but require a certificate of insurance, load-in windows, or a fee. Ask for the vendor policy in writing. A good DJ will gladly provide insurance paperwork and confirm power, load-in access, and setup time.

Venues I know well include The Oaks Waterfront and Kent Island Resort, and you can browse more on our Maryland venues page. Every property has its own rhythm, and that local knowledge saves you stress.

Question 4: What Are the Sound and Power Limits?

Waterfront ceremonies on the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore deal with wind, open air, and sometimes strict sound ordinances. Ask where music can be played, what time it must end, and whether ceremony and cocktail hour share the same power. A tent, a barn, and a ballroom each need a different setup.

  • Music curfew. Many Maryland venues end amplified music at 10 PM. Plan the dance floor opening around that.
  • Ceremony audio. Confirm a wireless microphone for the officiant and a clean feed for processional music.
  • Rain plan. Ask where the ceremony and dancing move if weather turns, and how fast the room flips.

Question 5: What Does an Upgrade Cost?

All-inclusive rarely means every possible upgrade is included. Uplighting, a dance floor, specialty bar items, extended hours, and late-night snacks are common add-ons. Ask for a printed price list. Then compare it with what an outside vendor would charge, because sometimes the venue upgrade is a bargain and sometimes it is not.

For example, wedding uplighting can transform a plain ballroom in minutes, and a photo booth keeps guests busy during cocktail hour. Check whether your venue offers them or lets you bring your own.

Question 6: Who Is Your Day-Of Point Person?

The coordinator included in your package may be managing two or three events that weekend. Ask who will actually be on site, how long they stay, and whether they handle the ceremony rehearsal. This matters for your DJ because the MC and coordinator need to cue each other for grand entrances, dinner release, and the cake cutting.

A short, professional MC handoff is the difference between a smooth night and an awkward lull. It is one of the things couples tell me they were most grateful for, and you can read what past couples say on our reviews page.

A Simple Checklist to Bring on Your Venue Tour

  • Entertainment. Is a DJ included, optional, or not offered?
  • Hours. What are the room rental hours and the amplified music cutoff?
  • Vendors. Is there a preferred list, and are outside vendors allowed?
  • Power and layout. Where can a DJ set up, and is there dedicated power?
  • Costs. What are the upgrade, overtime, and cake or service fees?
  • Rain plan. Where does everything move, and who makes the call?

Print that list, take notes, and ask every venue the same questions. You will quickly see which packages are truly all-inclusive and which are simply bundled.

How This Plays Out Across the DMV

Annapolis and Baltimore venues often include a coordinator and a bar package but leave entertainment to you. On the Eastern Shore and Kent Island, many properties are flexible with outside vendors, but waterfront setups need extra planning for wind and sound. In Ocean City, hotels and beach clubs may have strict load-in windows. In DC and Northern Virginia, museum and estate venues may require insured vendors and tight setup times.

If you are still deciding on a DJ, start with our Maryland wedding DJ page, or check the local pages for Annapolis and the Eastern Shore. I would rather you ask too many questions now than discover a gap three weeks before the wedding.

Not sure what style of night you want? Take the What's Your Wedding Vibe? quiz. It takes about two minutes, and it gives you language to share with your venue, planner, and DJ.

An all-inclusive package should make your planning easier, not hide the details. Ask, get it in writing, and make sure the dance floor has a plan.
